UKWIR was set up by the UK water industry in 1993 to provide a framework for the procurement of a common research programme for UK water operators on ‘one voice’ issues. UKWIR’s members comprise 19 water and sewerage undertakers in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Irish Water.
In January 2012 the Water Industry Forum (WIF) was launched as the only neutral, stakeholder forum and information hub for the UK water sector. WIF is an independent not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and based in West Yorkshire.
The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) was formed in 1990 to provide independent reassurance that public water supplies in England and Wales are safe and drinking water quality is acceptable to consumers. We are a small organisation of 41 staff, based in London.
Water Industry Commission for Scotland are a non-departmental public body with statutory responsibilities. Their mission is to manage an effective regulatory framework which encourages the Scottish water industry to provide a high-quality service and value for money to customers. They promote the interests of water and sewerage customers in Scotland by making sure that they receive a high-quality service and value for money.
